GPS page
This page has links to various site for GPS related topics. While the main emphasis is on Garmin products, it is not a direct endorsment.
What is GPS you may ask? The short story is this. GPS (Global Positioning System) uses Spread Spectrum technology to determine where you are in the world. The first comment I hear after I tell people this is that they already know were they are. While this is fundamentally true they really dont know were they are. For a intor in to GPS go to the following link. http://sss-mag.com/gps1.html I saw a very good show on Public Television. Nova ran a show on the Search For Longitude. While it does not touch on GPS until the end the overall show is a good history lesson and shows how we have taken technology for granted. NOVA and to see about GPS at their site, www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/longitude/gps.html
Now that I have that out of the way, I have found a site that has the connector that Garmin is using on the back of their GPS receivers. There are other sources for premade cables but be warned, Garmin is very proud of their cables and this is Amatuer Radio. This link is for the connector only.

This is a link for a vendor that carries a "semi complete" cable. It is intended for hard wire installations but I dont see why you should spent twenty more dollars just for a db-9 and a cig lighter end when you can "do-it-yourself".

After you get the cable built/bought I found a program that will let you install waypoints into the GPS receiver using the pc. Thanks to Brent Hilderbrand for the program.

Here is a site that I found that has 13000+ waypoints and various other waypoint files.

As I find them I will increase the list of manufactures and vendors so stay tuned.
